other continuity issues I am salty about:

• the entire situation with the rachni, from the bullshit around the queen on down to the needless retconning of them to spiders from cockroach things and the fact that we never got to see a rachni ship (including them as scientists working offscreen on the Crucible seemed like a blatant cop out taken because they didn’t have time/money to animate them in the end game armada like so many of the other assets)
• Noveria being little more than a goddamn multiplayer map when it is a hub of scientific research at a time when ppl are trying to gather all of the best minds and tech in the galaxy to work on a mysterious superweapon (and not even a mention of Gianna Parasini)
• Remember that beacon on Virmire?
• And Shepard’s apartment from Pinnacle Station? (I am irrationally upset about this one, lol)
• not a single sidequest from ME2 mattered, but in particular the “stop the missiles” mission on Watson where you had to decide between saving the industrial area or the civilian area
• none of the sidequests from 1 or 2 where decisions were made about what to do with damning info on Cerberus mattered
• The Collector Base decision. Enough said.

No. No, for the most part, that is not the main problem. That is not the point of the rage.

I’m pretty sure we all expected sad and bittersweet endings, and sacrifices in ME3. We all speculated that, at least in one ending, Shepard would die for the known galaxy that he/she has been trying to save throughout the trilogy. We speculated what characters or love interests would suffer an untimely death, or what would become of them afterwards.

What we didn’t expect was the god-awful plot-holes that are so large that you could fly the entire Alliance fleet AND Citadel through at the same time. What we didn’t expect was that deus ex machina (That stupid God-AI-Child bastard.) that appeared literally out of nowhere in the last five minutes of the otherwise amazing game.

We didn’t expect all of our decisions, decisions we were told were going to matter to the story, to be blatantly ignored in lieu of three equally-shitty end game choices; destroy the Reapers (And all synthetic life and the technology the galaxy relies on.), take control of the Reapers, or use ~SPACE MAGIC~ to combine organic and synthetic life into some new hybrid life-form.

But you might say, “Those choices all look so different, what do you mean there is no choice?” 

Because there really is no choice. No matter what you choose, no matter what you do, the Mass Relays are destroyed. The Citadel explodes. For some out-of-character reason, Joker is flying the Normandy AWAY from Earth, in mid-Relay jump, and is stranded on some random, jungle planet with no hope of rescue. 

We don’t get to see if Earth rebuilds, we don’t see if the Krogan expand or rebel again, we don’t see the quarians on their newly-regained homeworld. NONE OF THOSE CHOICES WE MADE MATTER TO THE ENDING, and after the Mass Relays are destroyed, most of the galactic civilization is stuck in the Sol system anyway! Well, either that or dead.

Because, y’know, as told in the Arrival DLC, when a Mass Relay is destroyed, it basically creates a supernova that wipes out an entire solar system. Unless ~SPACE MAGIC~ somehow prevents that. 

And then we get an “epilogue” of an old man telling the “story of the Shepard” to some kid on the same planet we see the Normandy crashing on.

No explanation of what happened to everyone in the Sol system, or what happened to your squad, or ANYTHING. Sure, if you have enough galactic readiness, you may see Shepard under some rubble taking a breath, but that’s it. There is no closure to the story, only a few answers and only more questions brought on by these plot-holes and a deus ex machina!

The whole space god-AI-child thing came out of nowhere and gives you 3 versions of THE EXACT SAME ENDING. All you change is the color of the explosion and what the Reapers do; if they just fly away or plop over dead. That’s all your big, end-game decision does. After we were told, promised, that there would be a variety of different endings, based on how ready you are and all of the decisions you made throughout the game.

In a trilogy that tells us over and over again that “your choice matters, no matter how impossible it may seem.” 

A trilogy whose theme is about hope. About uniting and saving the damn galaxy against insurmountable odds. Everywhere in the game, we are told, “We’re saving this galaxy no matter what. Even if Shepard has to die, the galaxy will be saved and live on. WE ARE GONNA DO THIS.”

Then we are practically sucker punched by Bioware’s deus ex machina and told, “No, you can only choose between these choices that effectively kills the Mass Effect universe, and you will believe in this god-AI-child because you have to!”

… Where the fuck is the option to jab my finger in this brat’s face and say, “No. Fuck you. Who are you to think you can control OUR future? Who died and made you God of the galaxy? Why do you, an AI, think you are so entitled to “save” us from our mistakes? You say that organics will always be killed by synthetics, but look out there. Look what I did. I united the whole fucking galaxy, I even united the geth and the quarians! Your so-called “logic” is all based on “maybe”, something that MIGHT happened. But I refuse. If you control the Reapers, then leave. Leave, take your Reapers, and never come back. Let us live how we choose, and if we are killed by our own synthetics, then so be it. Just don’t float here and think you can play God.”

Without the Mass Relays, without the Citadel, without the ability to explore the galaxy and meet the other alien races… it’s not Mass Effect. This is not the universe the fans have been immersing themselves in for over 5-6 years. 

And then, after all that, a dev from Bioware tweets, “We look forward to the future of ME3!”

… I don’t even.

TL;DR = Plot-holes up the ass, a stupid Deus Ex Machina that is just insulting, and absolutely no closure or answers the questions we were promised. 

I can deal with death and being depressing, Bioware.

I heard from some unofficial Q&A with Patrick Weekes from PAX that on the topic f the relays supernova:
“No, they didn’t. (i’m paraphrasing here, please don’t interpret this too hard) They overloaded, they didn’t rupture.  We really didn’t mean to imply that the whole galaxy had been destroyed. People interpreted the ending in ways we really didn’t expect.”

I was filled with so much damn rage. What? You didn’t think people were paying attention? Overload or Rupture??? They STILL EXPLODED. We were only shown ONE relay ever exploding and it was made a BIG DEAL out of because:

“The resulting explosion would probably wipe out the system”

“Why do you think destroying the relay would destroy the entire system?”

“Mass Relays are the most powerful mass-effect engines in the galaxy. The energy released from a relay’s destruction would probably resemble a supernova.”

AND IT DID. That’s WHY Shepard is locked up at the start of ME3, because we wiped out a system and KILLED ALL THE PEOPLE THERE. Between that and the end we do not witness the destruction of any OTHER relay that would indicate that a relay exploding didn’t mean CERTAIN death for everyone in the system.

AND NONE OF THE ENDINGS SHOW SYSTEMS THAT WE KNOW CONTAINED RELAYS WHERE EVERYONE ISN’T DEAD

…. So basically the DEVs were expecting us to see a relay exploding and somehow think it’s different because SPACE MAGIC with no evidence or even clues that this is somehow a magical not system destroying chain reaction??? I’m sorry. THAT IS BAD WRITING. THIS BAD COMEDY. JUST-AAAARRRRGH

that and the”You should assume that everyone plot-important on the Citadel survived” even though that exploded… and is in space… magic kinetic barriers…

…I’m so jaded and disappointed right now… Bioware still gets props for inclusiveness when it comes to romances and by and large writing good characters but… this is either lying to try and make the people who wrote the ending not look bad or plain idiocy.
